Boroughmuir 27 Kirkcaldy 22
Three tries from Mike Blair helped Boroughmuir to victory in the opening tie of the tournament, and a clash with Jed-Forest in round two.
Boroughmuir opened the scoring with a move that started in their own '22'. Scotland 'A' scrum-half, Mike Blair was on hand to break over and score the opening try of the tournament, but the conversion sailed wide.
Kirkcaldy responded with a break by Goodall, but Boroughmuir were strong in defence and the city side broke clear and scored through James Reilly, who also added the conversion. On the stroke of half time Kirkcaldy clawed themselves back into the contest with a converted try from Stewart Pearson.
Boroughmuir again opened the second-half brightly and killed off the tie with two quick tries. First Malcolm Clapperton sprinted over, and then Blair found space down the touchline to score. Both went unconverted.
Kirkcaldy scored through Jamie Syme before Blair claimed his hat trick with a touchdown in the last minute of the tie.
