Selkirk, 19; Barbarians, 40.
Current holders, the Barbarians, made a solid start to the defence of their title with a comfortable win over a plucky Selkirk 7.
The Babas raced into a 19-0 lead with tries from Alex Page, James Strong and Charlie Keenan. Arwel Thomas converted two. Two tries from Simon Murdoch, one converted by David Cassidy, kept Selkirk in touch, but further scores from Brett Robinson, Keenan and Page pulled the Babas clear. Selkirk kept fighting and were awarded a penalty try when Fraser Jack was pushed over. Cassidy added the conversion.
