Gala 14, Peebles 17

Peebles progressed to round 2 with a hard-fought victory over Border rivals Gala in the final tie of the first round at the Greenyards.

Gala got off to the best possible start with an early score from Callum MacRae, that Jackson Berry converted.

The Maroons continued to press, but the men from the Gytes came back into the contest with atry from Chris Foster. Scott Nichol converted with the aid of the post.

Some good pressing from Peebles forced their Border rivals into a mistake and Dave Dillon was on hand to touchdown.

Gala regained the lead early in the second half with a second try from Callum MacRae, converted by Berry.

A Nichol try put Peebles ahead again, but the stand-off missed the conversion.

Nevertheless, Peebles held on to face Hawick in round 2
