Hosts Melrose produced superb fight-back to take the holders into extra-time, but eventually lost out to a Alex Page try.
All the early pressure came from the hosts, but it was the holders who broke the deadlock with a breakaway try from Charlie Keenan. Welsh fly-half, Arwel Thomas, added the conversion.
An error in mid-field handed the Babas their second try. James Strong sprinted in from the 10-meatre line after Melrose had lost possession. Thomas again converted.
A superb piece of skill from Bruce Ruthven sent the Melrose youngster in for the score on the stroke of half-time. Callum MacRae's conversion brought Melrose back into the contest.
A try from Darren Burns re-established the Baba's authority on the game, and Thomas converted from the touchline.
Bruce Ruthven added his second try, and Callum MacRae converted, to put the tie back in the melting pot.
With the crowd cheering, Bruce Ruthven sprinted in from half-way after MacRae's break, and the Melrose kicker landed the conversion to tie the scores.
The match entered extra time and Alex Page scored the crucial try after Melrose were penalised.
