Boroughmuir Win Melrose Sevens 2002
Boroughmuir 38, NIG Scottish Thistles 7
In the end the final was rather lopsided as Boroughmuir stretched away in the first half and killed off the NIG Thistles side.
Four first half tries all but sealed the tie for Boroughmuir, and again Mike Blair was at the centre of everything. The scrum-half, who debuted for Scotland A last weekend added another two tries to his total. Blair scored nine in the tournament.
First blood in the final went to Boroughmuir with the opening try coming after a break by Ally Warnock allowed Malcolm Clapperton to go over under the posts. Warnock added the conversion.
NIG Thistles fought back into the tie but were unable to breach the Boroughmuir line and Mike Blair was able to go over after some pressure by the Edinburgh club.
Ally Warnock then weighed in with a try, and he also added the conversion.
Boroughmuir virtually sealed the tie before the break with a try from David Cunningham.
Blair claimed his second try of the tie early in the second half, and then Olo Brown was able to score his first of the afternoon. Warnock converted both.
The Thistles gained a consolation score in the final minute through Colin Eadie, converted by Graeme Kiddie.
