The Ruthven brothers dominated the early exchanges of the hosts clash with Jed-Forest with Bruce and Scott claiming a try apiece and the latter converting both to the delight of the home support.

Melrose stretched further ahead when Kacey Mitchell jinked his way across and Scott Ruthven again converted.

Jed brought new life into the tie with scores from Kevin Amos and Simon Lightbody early in the second half, but a breakaway score from Graham Thompson settled the tie in favour of Melrose.
