NIG Scottish Thistles 40 Stirling County 12

The Thistles made a comfortable start to their challenge for the Melrose 7s title with a couple of early tries putting them in control. Conan Sharman raced in for the first and then Clark Laidlaw took advantage of some neat play from Sean Lamont to score the second.

Kenny Sinclair raced in from halfway to extend the lead, and Sharman claimed a second in the final moments of the half to virtually seal the tie.

Craig Sangster and Bob Wylie showed County still had plenty fight with tries in the second half, but the Thistles proved too strong with further tries coming from Neil Clark and John Fitzpatrick.
