MELROSE INTERNATIONAL RUGBY SEVENS

Boroughmuir 24 University of Pretoria 15

Defending Champions Boroughmuir had the upper hand early on in the second quarter-final with a try from Charlie Keenan giving his side the lead.

The tie was soon level when Werner Pieterse stepped inside the last line of the defence to score. Neither try was converted.

A break by Chris Cusiter stretched the Pretoria defence and Ally Warnock cruised over between the posts, and then converted his own try.

Pretoria hit back right at the start of the second half with Pieterse crossing for his second try, but his conversion rebounded off the bar.

Warnock grabbed his second try of the tie when he stretched over in the corner and he added a crucial two points with the conversion to give Boroughmuir breathing space.

Replacement Rory Couper sealed the tie for hosts with a score soon after, and Pretoria found themselves heading for the exit despite a score from LD Mzozonyana.
