Warren Spragg stretched the lead for Sale with a try and conversion soon after, and then Chris Mayor raced over from halfway to put his side in control of the tie.

Conan Sharman brought his side back into the tie with a converted try midway through the second period. Kenny Sinclair was unlucky not to close the gap further, but his kick dribbled beyond his grasp. Sale immediately went up the field and sealed the tie with a try from Magnus Lund.
