Selkirk 21, Currie 17
Selkirk 21 Currie 17
The opening score of the 2003 Tilney Melrose 7s went to Currie within a minute of the kick-off when Greig Rutherford crossed between the posts. Unfortunately the simple conversion attempt rebounded off the post.
On the stroke of halftime Selkirk responded with a try from youngster Craig Hunter, that Scott Tomlinson converted, giving the Border side the lead at the interval.
A Fraser Jack score early in second half turned the game in Selkirk’s favour, and a second score from Hunter all but assured Selkirk of a place in the second round.
Pier Luci Gentile and Rutherford crossed near the end of the tie but Selkirk held on to set up a clash with Kelso.
