MELROSE INTERNATIONAL RUGBY SEVENS

Ayr 0 Sale Sharks 34

Defending champions Sale Sharks ran in six tries without reply to set up a meeting with Boroughmuir in the quarter-finals.

A try and conversion from Jimmy Moore kick started Sale’s challenge to retain the Ladies Cup.

A clever side step took James Hoyle past the Ayr defence before Moore converted to double the English side’s lead.

Sale kept Ayr firmly on the back foot with their third in quick succession. Stuart Coakley finding room behind a stretched Ayr back line.

Moore beat several players before off loading to Chris Briers who crossed from close range as Sale went into the break with a comfortable 24-0 lead.

Hoyle ran from his own half to score his second before slicing his attempted conversion off target.

A second try from Coakley saw the English side safely through to the next round.
