Peebles 12 Stellenbosch University 38
The Borderers gave a good account of themselves before being dumped out of the competition by the pacy and powerful South Africans.
Johan Pieterson burst through in the opening minute of the tie and added the conversion.
Peebles hit back though, and Cam Twigley raised a cheer as he touched down with Scott Nichol converting.
The South Africans were restored to the lead seconds later when Rohan Steyl crossed before Dwain Brown added his first counter of the competition.
Peebles showed they were up for the fight and passed up several opportunities before narrowing the gap. Chris Foster took his try well to take the score to 17-12 in Stellenbosch’s favour at the break.
Peebles lost possession in attack and Wilhelm Koch powered away clear from inside his own half to score below the posts.
Pieterson bettered that feat with a run from inside his own ’22 before Brown raced in for his second.
Pieterson stretched his side’s lead with all three conversions.
