MELROSE INTERNATIONAL RUGBY SEVENS

Boroughmuir 24 Sale Sharks 5

Defending champions Sale Sharks succumbed to an impressive display by Boroughmuir. The Edinburgh team outscored the English side by four tries to one to earn a game against Stellenbosch University in the semi-finals.

James Reilly and Euan Matheson combined with some neat passes in front of the Sharks try line, which resulted in the latter scoring. Graeme Kiddie converted before Calum Cusiter added a second for ‘Muir with a powerful run.

Sale played their way out of their own half, combining to send Tom Foley over in the right-hand corner, but went into the interval trailing the Scots 12-5.

Exciting play from Boroughmuir led to Dougie Brown adding to his team’s lead with Kiddie converting as ‘Muir put 14 points between the sides.

Ally Warnock battled through to put the final nail in Sale’s coffin as the defending champions crashed out and Boroughmuir progressed.
