Scottish Thistles 19 Ponsonby 24
Ponsonby claimed the first final spot after an extra time winner from replacement John Kolokihakaufisi.
It was a tight battle all the way with Kane Hancy and Matthew Pert crossing to give the Kiwis the early advantage.
The Thistles, though kept in touch when Andy Turnbull scored in the far corner.
A clever back hand pass from Iain Fairley presented the opening that Mark Lee capitalised on before scores from John Fitzpatrick for the Scots and Brett Williams for the New Zealanders added to the dramatic tie.
A brace of conversions from both Calum MacRae and Brett Williams tied the score 19-all at the end of the normal time.
The tie headed into extra time on the first time of the afternoon, but it was Ponsonby who held their nerve to progress at the Thistles expense.
Kolokihakaufisi collected for the vital score at the near corner.
