Selkirk 12 Watsonians 28
Watsonians opened the 2004 Tetley’s Melrose Sevens by overturning Selkirk.
Guy Blair sprinted through the Watsonians defence before off loading to Alistair Heatlie who touched down between the posts. Blair comfortably added the conversion.
Selkirk kept up the pressure when Heatlie went over for his second, Fraser Harkness playing him in at the right-hand corner.
An exchange of passes between Colin Gregor and Jamie Blackwood saw the latter score to bring Watsonians back into it. Gregor added the conversion to narrow the gap to five points.
Gregor turned try scorer and added the conversion to put his side ahead.
Matt Thompson ran from halfway to make Watsonians lead more comfortable with Gregor again kicking the conversion.
The Edinburgh side picked up a loose ball in midfield as Gregor went in for his second before converting.
