Stirling County 17 Scottish Thistles 24
The Scottish Thistles, fresh from their success in the Hong Kong Sevens where they lifted the Plate, overcame a spirited battle from Stirling County.
Andy Turnbull powered his way through a couple of attempted tackles before stretching his legs to open the scoring for the Thistles. Melrose club player Calum MacRae converted.
Brian Archibald scored in the corner to keep County in touch before Bob Wylie went in at the same spot to give his the advantage.
MacRae held a neat pass from Iain Fairley to restore Thistle’s lead and he wasted no time before running through for his second. MacRae then converted both efforts.
Chris Harris kept County in the tie with a score converted by Archibald, but John Fitzpatrick ensured it was the Thistles who progressed with a late try.
