Watsonians 14, Ponsonby 19
Both sides made a cautious start to this tie and it was a well worked move by Watsonians that put them ahead. A clever run by Andy Turnbull took his team out of his own half. Turnbull then drew Henry Lawson before sending Colin Gregor into space for the score. Gregor added the conversion.
Ponsonby captain Matthew Pert led by example to bring his side back into the tie and Paul Williams’ conversion levelled the score.
The New Zealanders stepped up a gear and went ahead through David Smith and Lawson with Williams adding a conversion.
Watsonians scored a late consolation try by Callum Williams, but it was the overseas side who progressed to a semi-final tie with Stellenbosch University.
