MELROSE INTERNATIONAL RUGBY SEVENS

Currie 14, Melrose 29

Currie went ahead when Sullivan combined with John McDonald for the latter to cross from close range.

David Officer then capitalised on a mistake by Karne Kaufana, when the Melrose player went to ground and played the ball back. Officer won the race to the ball lying vulnerably behind the Melrose line before Mike Ker added his second conversion.
Jamie Murray restored some hope for the hosts running in clear with Scott Ruthven converting before the break.

Slack passing in their own ’22 almost had Melrose in trouble again, but they broke away and Mark Robertson side-stepped past Currie’s last man to score. Ruthven again converted before finding himself held up just short for a score of his own. Fortunately, though, for the anxious home crowd Alex Clark was up in support to cross in the corner.

Graeme Dodds then twice repeated the trick down in the left hand corner as Melrose ran away with the tie.
