Boroughmuir 21 Melrose 12
The loudest cheers of the afternoon so far announced the arrival of hosts Melrose and the home crowd very nearly had an early score to celebrate, but it wasn’t to be when Jamie Murray was well collected by Calum Cusiter.
Boroughmuir silenced the Melrose supporters in the crowd when Rory Couper crossed and Howard Graham added the conversion.
Melrose drew level when Cammy Murray broke, but he was made to work hard for the score as he was chased all the way to the line, before Alec Clark converted. Melrose went ahead when Karne Kaufana and Murray combine to set up Graeme Thomson.
A superb run from Cusiter drew the Edinburgh side level and Graham added a crucial conversion from in front of the posts to edge his side ahead.
Melrose went looking for a winning score, but instead conceded. Boroughmuir collected possession midway in their own half before Dougie Brown broke away. Melrose let Brown go and he was unthreatened as he walked the ball over the line before touching down. Graham again converted as Melrose exited the tournament at the first hurdle.
