Calum Forrester edged Thistles into an early lead when persistence paid off and Forrester crossed out wide in the left hand corner.

Sam Parlane doubled the Thistles advantage when he scored between the posts before also adding the conversion.

Thistles’ Greg Cottrell collected from a well-planned penalty moved before feeding Forrester who battled through a couple of challenges to score his second of the tie.
Oxford opened their account with tries either side of the break. Mark Simpson Daniel then Tom Tombleson reduced the gap to seven points.

A powerful surge from Tombleson took him clear of the Thistles defence and Kevin Brennan’s conversion brought the English students level.

The Scots then rediscovered their scoring touch with Ben Addison beating Brennan to the corner. But George Dixon broke from halfway for a score below the posts and Brennan converted to put Oxford ahead and through to a quarter-final tie with the high scoring Heriot’s.
