Watsonians 5 Newcastle Falcons 35

Newcastle Falcons took an early lead against Watsonians when Cameron Johnson scored for Carl McWilliam to convert.

Ollie Phillips extended the Falcons lead when he broke from halfway and beat Watsonians’ Jamie Blackwood and Alistair Rowe for the score.

Johnson repeated the trick moments later when his pace too left the Scots floundering. McWilliam converted both efforts.

Phillips matched Johnson’s brace when he too broke away and Andrew Skeen took over kicking duties to add a fourth conversion.

Watsonians, though, did not completely wilt in the face of their dominant opponents with some slick passing and good support play sending Guy Hills into the left hand corner.

Blackwood tackled Stuart Mackie, but Ralph Smyth was up in support to collect and run in for the score to end Watsonians participation in the 2006 tournament.
