MELROSE INTERNATIONAL RUGBY SEVENS

Biggar 10 The Shimlas 24

Tricky underfoot conditions caused by earlier rain caused Stanley Stevens to stumble as he ran for the line, but he regained his footing to grab an early score.

Leonard Krantz extended the Shimlas lead when great support play by the South Africans recovered possession and took play up into the Biggar ’22. Krantz sealed the pacy move with the score.

Stuart Harrison capitalised on some sloppy play from the Shimlas behind their own posts to put Biggar on the score sheet.

Stevens contrived his second of the tie when he powered away from the Scots defence with a successful conversion from JW Jonker.

Biggar, though, continued to offer stern resistance with Gary Walkinshaw squeezing in at the left hand corner.

Graham White threatened with a determined break, but there was no support from his Biggar team-mates and the Shimlas made sure of their progression when Jonker made a break of his own to score and then convert.
