The Shimlas 19 Heriots 20

Heriots ensured there was a Scottish interest in the final when they overcame the Shimlas in a tight semi-final.

Scott Newlands continued his try scoring form in this tournament to put Heriots into an early lead over South African guest side the Shimlas.

John Houston doubled his side’s advantage moments later when good support play defeated determined tackling from the Shimlas.

The South Africans kept their heads up though and Hannru Haupt narrowed the gap when he ran under the posts and JW Jonker converted.

Jaco Hanekom put his side in front when a long pass out from Dandre Gerber enabled him to capitalise on gaps in the Heriots’ defence to secure the score.

Jonker extended his team’s lead after the restart in a move that begun behind their own posts. Quick handling sent Gerber to the halfway line before he kicked ahead. Jonker collected to touch down before also adding the conversion.

Heriot’s replied to the Shimlas onslaught when Michael Goldie narrowed the gap before Houston raced into the corner to send Heriots into the final.
