Selkirk 7 Gala 12
Local rivals Selkirk and Gala kick started the 2006 CALA Melrose Sevens and it was Gala who progressed into a second round meeting with Watsonians.
Selkirk put Gala on the back foot in the opening minutes, but Gala broke from inside their own '22 and a piece of clever handling from Graham Bryce allowed him to run in from the halfway line. Jackson Berry consolidated Gala's advantage with the conversion.
The Souters were back level when David Cassidy collected after a Craig Hunter run created the space and Cassidy added an easy two points from in front of the posts. Berry put Gala back ahead when he shot down the blindside from inside the Selkirk '22.
