Langholm 5 Currie 7
Langholm opened the Mathon Melrose Sevens 125th anniversary competition with a battling display against Currie at a wet and chilly Greenyards. Langholm caught Currie by surprise to take an early lead. Steven Nicol broke from his own half and scored the opening try of the tournament despite the attentions of Mark Cairns. The city side though, brought themselves level when Jamie Harris kicked ahead before collecting and scoring under the posts. Harris nudged his side in front before the break by adding the conversion. Langholm found themselves with an overlap mid-way through the second half, but the damp conditions led to Jamie Little fumbling the ball just short of the try line. Moments later Nicol broke away from the half way line only to be tackled into the corner. The Borderers squandered another chance from the resultant line out when they knocked on just metres short of the line and it proved costly as Currie held on to send Langholm out of the competition.
