Boroughmuir opened the scoring in this tie when Sean Crombie, a former member of the Border Reiver’s academy, touched down and Elgan O’Donnell converted.
Malcolm Clapperton broke through from close range and converted his own try to double ‘Muir’s lead going into the interval.
Ayr missed a decent opening when Pat McArthur sent his pass to Andrew White forward before ‘Muir showed them how it should be done. O’Donnell found Angus Martyn cleanly to put Martyn in under the posts and O’Donnell converted to the stretch his side’s lead.
Moments later Clapperton broke through and repeated his earlier trick by converting his own try.
O’Donnell rounded off a bright opening tie for Boroughmuir in the final play of the game.
