Peebles 10 Gold Coast Breakers 36
The Gold Coast Breakers made a dominant start to their tie against Peebles holding on to possession and adding points to the scoreboard. Marshall Milroy added the first five points before Corey Niwa supplied Caleb Brown. A late tackle couldn’t prevent Brown from scoring and Milroy slotted the ball home for the extra points. The Aussies didn’t have it all their own way though, with Craig Hunter snatching a try in the corner to leave the gap at 12-5 going into the break. The Breakers extended their lead with their first play of the second half when Drew Lawrie, brother of former Melrose player Will Lawrie, battled through to score in the same corner as Hunter. Vitdri Buatava added to his side’s lead with a score he converted himself before Peebles hit back for a second time. Hunter used his power and pace to add to the Scots tally. The teams shared the play in the closing stages, but it was the overseas visitors who did the damage with Niwa scoring a late double and adding one conversion.
