Jed-Forest 24 Chinese Agricultural University 14
Jed-Forest made a bright start to their second round tie against the Far Eastern visitors. Roy McFarlane twice crossed in the same corner after a series of good passing and support play. The Chinese reduced the gap when a good piece of play enabled Wang Chong Yi to set up Zhang Zhi Qiang with the latter also adding the conversion. Jedburgh passed up a golden opportunity before the students went in front. Chong Yi turned try scorer and Li Sheng converted for a half time lead of 14-10. Good support play and running brought loud cheers from the crowd when Gary Hill scored for Jed. Clark Laidlaw’s conversion stretched the Borderers narrow lead to set up an exciting closing period. The Chinese though, found themselves on the back foot and it was Jed who added to their lead. A try from Ross Goodfellow and conversion from Laidlaw put the Chinese students out of the tournament.
