Ulster 26, Gold Coast Breakers 5
Keith Earls began this tie as he did against Watsonians in the previous round by scoring an early try for the Irish visitors. The Australians made Ulster work harder for their second effort, but when Felix Jones broke away from an attempted tackle by Marshall Milroy just metres short of the line he crossed under the posts. Earls added the simple conversion to take a 12-0 lead into halftime. The Breakers looked to put up a fight, but Ulster defended strongly before Darren Cave broke away to score under the posts. Earls converted. Marshall Suckling made sure the visitors from across the Irish Sea didn’t have it all their own way when he scored at the other end. Ulster demonstrated their desire for success by denying the Aussies with some tight tackling before concluding the tie with a further score from Earls.
