Melrose 17 Shimlas 12

The South Africans dampened home hopes when Wessel Du Plessis powered through for the first score. Leonard Krantz converted.
The Shimlas extended their lead despite Melrose’s attempts to hit back. The Scots tried to defend, but the South Africans were there in numbers and Kenny Von Wiellig had the final touch.
Melrose though, took the game to the visitors and their pressure paid off when John Dalziel powered his way over the line.
The hosts kept battling away and their fine passing play was rewarded when first Scott McCormick and then Jordan Macey scored thrilling tries. Scott Wight converted Macey’s effort as Melrose took a tight lead into the closing seconds. The hosts played cleverly in the final few moments to deny the Ladies Cup holders any opportunity to get back into the tie.
