MELROSE INTERNATIONAL RUGBY SEVENS

Leicester Tigers 31 Melrose 7

Leicester Tigers opened the scoring when a burst of pace from Ben Youngs took him through the Melrose line before he beat the last defender to score under the posts. Gregor Gillanders kicked the simple conversion.
Melrose bravely passed the ball along the line from just in front of their own posts before Jamie Murray broke through and kept himself out in front of the chasing Gillanders to touch down between the posts. Scott Wight’s kicked levelled the score.
Tempers got a little bit heated as Melrose took the game to the English side, but the tie entered the break with the sides on seven apiece.
A powerful run by Tigers captain Tom Youngs led to a try by the posts despite desperate Melrose defending. Ignaico Mieres converted before his side further extended their lead through Ben Youngs.
Matt Smith found a gap in the Melrose line and ran in for the score from his own 10 metre line. Smith added the conversion to put a considerable gap between the sides.
Smith made the final play of the match with a further try to extinguish home hopes of a final berth.
